Last update is the police aren’t taking the dash cam as evidence for the wrongly arrested person.
So, I contacted the Chief Officer in charge, and told him I called multiple times and spoke with arresting officer and told him I had proof and he didnt want to see it, and said I have to file a formal complaint (online, or in person) and get it notarized and then it will be assigned to an internal affairs person.
(AKA we’ll throw this in the trash) is how I understood it.
Looks like I will go to local media (all anonymously) because no way these are the same 2 vehicles. I will call each media channel and whoever wants the story can have it and my proof and help get in contact with the lawyer.
Shame LEOs act this way.

And to think this was just a few miles from Detroit city limits (the direction the car is heading) and they probably could of done all the speeding they wanted.

Wow so a hellcat evaded the police, police caught up with another challenger but was the wrong one. Talk about wrong place at the wrong time.
Also good idea about going to the media. Make sure everything is documented for sure. You just may end up saving the innocent guy.

Hopefully it all gets figured out. Apparently this happened on Friday so a different commenter thinks he’s probably sitting in jail still.
I may have figured out who got arrested. Redacted (feel weird putting names in here) was arrested on 5/8 for reckless driving. A quick search pulls up his Facebook page and although I didn’t see a pic of his car, I do see a few challenger pics. It also looks like he is still sitting in jail since this happened probably waiting to be arraigned.

This sucks for r/t driver. Hopefully his lawyer subpoenas police dash footage and it's clear enough that they're different cars. Why run from the police unless the cars stolen I'll never understand. He could've killed himself and many others, he purchased a 60k car so he obviously has a good job. For what, a speeding ticket? Hell even reckless driving gets dropped down to a fine if you get a traffic attorney. Now this poor r/t owner has to pay for this asshole.

Thats terrible. Legit just driving down the road and get pulled over and arrested on the spot. I’m just guessing it was an ugly situation too considering fleeing from the police (felony) and insta-arrest. Now your whole weekend was spent in jail trying to figure out what the hell happened and how you can prove your innocence. Nevermind the fact that if you can’t you’re going to jail, you’ll have a record, parole, fines, job is gone - all because some asshole in a Hellcat.

It’s ridiculous. He made a plausible mistake, the 2 cars do look similar , but he should be willing to view the video and admit that he made a mistake. This is the unfortunate escalating cycle where people end up not trusting cops, so cops feel like they have to treat everyone like a criminal, so less people trust cops, and we end up flipping cars and looting Best Buy.

Ha, well sorry. But the Hellcat flies by on the shoulder doing probably 120mph and a few seconds later the cop goes by in the left lane, besides hellcat exhaust noise you’re not missing much.

Definitely a plausible mistake, but like you said at least view the video. Someone calls in saying they have a dash cam video and you have the wrong guy in jail, view the video.

It really does suck - being unwilling to even listen to a third party telling you that you’ve made a mistake is part of the reason people don’t trust cops. Nobody wants to admit their mistakes, but for something this simple, at least look at the evidence. It’s very obvious from the video that it’s a different car.

I hope they R/T driver finds out how long he was in there for while they knew it might not be him and sue or something.
Just read through and this got posted on Saturday just after midnight.
Just called and talked to the officer in charge currently. Told me I need to call tmw to speak with the officer who made the arrest and if requested show them the evidence I have AKA dash cam footage and pictures.
I will likely give them some of the information from these posts in the thread so they can catch the real bastard who got away.

I got pulled over once in a similar situation. I was driving a grey Civic Si sedan on the highway at night, cruise set at 3 over. I was passed by a grey Camry doing well over 100 mph. Two minutes later I got pulled over. By the time the cop got to my window he realized he had the wrong car. He apologized and sped off down the road. It happens and isn’t a problem as long as the cop isn’t in a “I’m never wrong, you dumb civie” kind of mood. Clearly Allen Park (ironically where I now work) cops aren’t so modest. Dicks.

Luckily I’ve never had to deal with them (thank you radar detector) but at least your situation was immediately solved. It’d be terrible to sit in cell all weekend over nothing.

A friend of mine was making the hour drive to visit me at college and was pulled over, held at gunpoint, cuffed and stuffed into the back of a police car three times. His mustang matched the description of another that was used in a bank robbery that morning. He was supposed to arrive mid-morning. He didn’t get there until well after lunch.
